# Reelpass

> Check a music exam video against the board's published size, format and file name rules, fix the name, and shrink it under the limit, all inside your browser.

The board's own page is the authority; check it before you upload. Reelpass checks your file against the published guidance on the date shown and cannot promise a board will accept it. Reelpass is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to any exam board, including ABRSM, Trinity College London or London College of Music Examinations.

## How it works

Preflight: the page reads the video file's own structure (MP4 and MOV boxes) in the browser to find the container, video and audio codecs, running time, resolution, frame rate and size, and asks the browser's WebCodecs decoder whether it can decode the picture. It checks these and the file name against the chosen board's profile, and lists the rules a machine cannot check (one continuous take, the introduction, photo ID) as a checklist for the user to tick.

Compression: the picture is decoded and re-encoded as H.264 with WebCodecs in a background worker, at a bitrate worked out from the board's limit, the running time and the size of the sound track, with a safety margin. The sound is copied into the new MP4 byte for byte, never re-encoded. Nothing is trimmed, joined or reordered. If the browser cannot decode the picture (often iPhone HEVC), the user is told how to fix it, and a slower ffmpeg build can be loaded on request.
