Your video never leaves your device

When you choose a video, your browser reads it from your disk. The file's structure is read in the page, the checks run in the page, and compression runs in a background worker in the same page, using your device's own video decoder and encoder. There is no server side to this site: it is a set of static files, so there is nowhere for a video to go. Nothing is uploaded. Your video, candidate names and pieces stay in this browser; the checking and the compressing run on your own device.

Exam videos are often of children. That is the main reason Reelpass was built to work without an upload: the recording, the candidate's face and any photo ID shown on camera stay on the device that holds them.

Where the compressed file is written

While a video is compressed, the new file is written in one of three places, all on your device. In browsers that let a page save to a file you pick (Chrome and Edge on a computer), and when you choose to, it is written straight to that file as it is made. Otherwise it is written to your browser's private storage for this site (the origin private file system), from which you save it; if the browser refuses that storage, the new file is held in the tab's memory instead. The private copy is removed when you choose another file, compress again, clear the queue, or close or leave the tab. If the browser or the device stops before that, the copy stays in private storage until the check page is next opened, which removes it; clearing site data for this site removes it at once. The slower fallback encoder below keeps its output in the tab's memory only.

What is remembered

Your board choice, any limit you override, the checklist ticks, and saved candidates (names, instruments, grades and pieces) are written to your browser's own local storage, under keys beginning with reelpass., and nowhere else. They belong to one browser on one device: they do not follow you to a phone, they are not backed up anywhere, and nobody else can read them. You can export candidates as a CSV file. Clearing site data for this site removes all of it permanently and immediately.

The slower fallback encoder

If your browser cannot decode a video, Reelpass can load a slower encoder (ffmpeg compiled for the web) from this same site. It is downloaded only when you ask for it (about 32 MB the first time), it runs inside your browser like everything else, and your video is still never sent anywhere. ffmpeg is free software under the GNU General Public License; this site serves the licence text and the source code for the exact build it serves.

No accounts

There is no sign up, no sign in, no email capture and no password to lose.

What is collected

No account, no advertising identifiers, and no analytics of what you check. Standard web server logs kept by the static host may record the request for a page, its time, and a network address, in the ordinary way that any web server records a request.

Payments

If a paid plan is ever offered and you buy it, the payment is handled by RevenueCat and Stripe, and an anonymous purchase id is kept in this browser so Reelpass recognises your plan. Reelpass never sees your card.

Cookies

Reelpass sets no cookies of its own, and it carries no advertising or cross site tracking scripts.

Children

The site is written for music teachers and parents preparing exam entries and is not directed at children under 13. It asks for no personal information from anyone; candidate names you type stay in your browser.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that affects what is collected, the change will appear on this page.

Questions about privacy go to socialreminderinfo@gmail.com. Since nothing is stored on a server, most requests are answered by telling you which local storage keys to clear. The video check and the guide work the same whether or not you ever write in.
